Natural river concept study for the Salzach in the Freilassing basin

Client
Government of Salzburg

Location
Austria / Salzburg

Duration
2015

Services
Variant study, general project

Project objectives

The aim of the project was defined by the concept "Salzachauen Nature Park - building a cathedral for the future" (12/2013, author: Haus der Natur und Naturschutz Land Salzburg). These included the reconnection of the floodplains and the restoration of a water body condition in line with the river guiding vision.

Project description

Within the framework of maximum space availability, a significantly larger development space is aimed for with the available areas than with the previous planning variants.

Project data

Total length of the measures approx. 4 km
Working area hinterland approx. 50 ha
MQ approx. 240 m³/s
HQ100 approx. 3100 m³/s

Project specifics

The project planning took place as an interdisciplinary process between ecology and hydraulic engineering / morphology. As a natural flow concept, hydraulic engineering / morphology on the one hand focuses on spatial development and river bed stability, while at the same time planning must take into account uses / interests / rights and compensate for risks.
