In Spittal / Drau a barrier in the river Lieser, built in the 1970s, has been an obstacle to migration of fishes and other aquatic organismsn ever since.

The construction of the new fish bypass - designed by flussbau iC - will now fix this problem according to the Water Framework Directive of the EU.

The bypass will consist of 13 basins, reaching a length of nearly 100 meters. The dotation will be 400 l/s, allowing fishes up to 80 cm length to pass it.

Start of construction work was in March, the project will be finished in June 2016. The costs of nearly 700.000 € are covered by the Republic of Austria.

flussbau iC was in charge of the design and consulting of the construction works through Peter Mayr, Manager of flussbau iC Villach.
